Meet Nastia Cloutier, the young photographer behind your favourite close-up's that capture the beauty of a woman's natural figure, complexion and luscious lips.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?
"As a teenager I wanted to become a model. But I stopped growing up really young and at 5,5 foot, I tried really hard to become one but when I discovered photography I realised I preferred being behind the camera and it gave me the opportunity to mix everything I love: fashion, beauty and art. I am proud to have success as a young women in a field that was considered "man like". Especially because women in the media are too often portrayed as vulnerable and cute instead of strong and badass. I am happy to see that the industry is changing and that we are seeing more and more women behind the camera, it will change women perception in the media".
WHO HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE IN YOUR LIFE?
"My grandfather: He never stopped doing what he loves even with a missing lung and multiples cancers. He was a musician and an incredible saxophone player. He taught me to never stop doing what I love doing no matter what ever happens and too use my passion to make people happy or simply to make them feel something".
WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?
"When I was younger I saw beauty has something superficial, I thought beauty was only about appearance. As I got older and start feeling more comfortable behind the camera and having no more time to do my makeup in the morning, I started to see beauty as a feeling. My favourite photographs are the ones that make me feel something, the ones that are all perfect leaves me indifferent. Today when I am influenced by someone, I am influenced by their energy instead of their physics. My previous role models where beautiful girls with not much personality and today they are women that are authentic with unique character.
IS THERE ANY WOMEN YOU LOOK UP TO OR ARE INSPIRED BY?
"There are so many women I look up to and am inspired by! At the moment Laura Sfez, the extraordinaire woman behind l’école des femmes (http://lecoledesfemmes.bigcartel.com) is one of my role models. I love how she embraces her bad habits and sexuality".
THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN:
"Only depend on yourself".
ON YOUR DAY OFF
"What is a day off? At the moment these don’t exist for me: I am a full time student and photographer".
DAILY BEAUTY ROUTINE
"The first thing I do every morning is have hot water with ginger and lemon and I never skip breakfast. I wash my face and apply a hydrating cream; I use Edith Serei because it is the only thing that works with my skin type. I don’t wear any makeup unless I feel like it. Before going to sleep I wash my face twice; Once to open my pores and the second time for a thorough and deeper cleanse. After I use a hydrating cream and mix it with oil, which I also put in my hair, I love Nuxe’s one (https://us.nuxe.com//huile-prodigieuse-multi-usage-dry-oil-nourishes-repairs-and-softens-splash-bottle-1.6-fl.-oz.-en-238). Whenever I have a pimple I use tea tree oil and whenever I have under eye bag I put spoons in the freezer and then put them under my eyes for 30 seconds each".
YOUR BEST SKIN/BEAUTY ADVICE:
"Oil and exfoliation are the thinks you should absolutely add to your routine. I have greasy skin and I still use oil for my hair, face and body because it simply works".
YOUR FEEL GOOD INDULGENCE:
"Sleeping in and going out with my friends until the bar closes, I like the nightlife in my city and just forget about all the things I have to do, just dance and have fun".
FAVOURITE DESTINATION OR HOT SPOT:
"Anywhere where there are mountains. I love to hike. Whenever I have the opportunity to travel I always choose a place where I know there will be nice mountains, there is nothing more satisfying then working your way up and arriving at a breathtaking view".
