KIRSTIE CLEMENTS

Author, Journalist, Speaker, Columnist and former editor in chief of VOGUE AUSTRALIA, KIRSTIE CLEMENTS speaks writing books, beauty products and having an "inner life".

WHAT HAS INSPIRED YOUR CAREER PATH?

"First and foremost it was a love of writing, and making magazines, and now books. There is nothing more exciting than a blank page or canvas, and the potential it has - it's up to you to fill it, to create something beautiful and/or inspiring. I'm an observer - I'm interested in popular culture, and new ideas. I like change.

WHO HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE IN YOUR LIFE

"My sons, especially now they are adults. I get to see the world through their eyes which makes me think more broadly, and they will often challenge my beliefs and opinions. Plus they are brutally honest and they make me laugh".

WHAT DOES BEAUTY MEAN TO YOU?

"Beauty has a lot to do with the essence of a person, and the energy of the project. I have spent my life around the worlds most beautiful people - i am very drawn to physical beauty, as we all are, but it needs to have some substance behind it! I also like quirks - big noses, freckles and dimples".

IS THERE ANY WOMEN YOU LOOK UP TO OR ARE INSPIRED BY?

"Oh, So many. The early feminists, the artists, the writers, the suffragettes, the activists, the comedians, the environmentalists, all those females who went first and went fearlessly. Im currently inspired by US senator Elizabeth Warren's brilliant takedowns of Donald Trump".

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR WOMEN TODAY?

"Re-defining what a full, successful life looks like, on our own terms and not apologizing for it. We dont have to buy into the former model, which was largely created by men and works better for men".

THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN:

"50% of people will like what you do and 50% won't. So it is worth doing. They're still pretty good odds".

ON YOUR DAY OFF:

"Wake up when I feel like it. A walk in the park. Read. Have lunch with my sons. Read. Have a foot massage. Read. Have a glass of wine. Buy something on sale on Net A Porter. Have dinner with friends. Watch a serial killer documentary".

DAILY BEAUTY ROUTINE:

"I am an ex beauty editor so I am obsessed with beauty products! I've always loved ranges such as La Mer and La Prairie but as I have gotten older my skin has become more sensitive and is prone to redness. I've just discovered Darphin, which has a nose based skin range which is brilliant".

"Always Paris, but increasingly, any place I've never been. I want to see everything I can! My next stop is hopefully India".

WHATS NEXT FOR KIRSTIE CLEMENTS:

"I'm working with a new luxury fashion and lifestyle magazine and content agency called inprint. It's like going back to the beginning of my career, when everything was fresh and full of possibility, it's great and i'm also in the procrastination stage of starting on my next book, a novel, which means I'm halfway there!".
